Moringa Skin Benefits For Men and Women

Women, if you share a bathroom with a man you may have noticed that men really do care about their skin! More than a few women have noticed their skincare products ‘mysteriously’ disappearing from their side of the sink (wave your hand in the air if this is you!), or that there is a sudden reduction in counter space due to the guy’s stuff taking over. Men are evolving past the simple routine that included only soap, shaving cream, and a splash of aftershave. And this is a good thing! Women aren’t the only ones who should be taking care of their skin in a more intentional way.

That being said, there is still some learning to be done. Upfront, consider that what you are putting on to your skin is being absorbed into your body. So, have you ever looked at the ingredients in some of these “skincare” products? Do you have a clue what they are? Can you even *pronounce* them? Much like ingredients in the foods we eat, it’s best to keep it simple – and as natural as possible. Skincare products should not need to come out of a lab and have 20 ingredients or more to be beneficial.

Using plants to make skin healthier and more vibrant is one of the best choices for skincare, and the skincare industry is waking up to this. More and more natural and plant-extracted tinctures, creams, and serums are popping up. Amongst this shift to more natural skincare products, there is one plant that you should be aware of, and that’s what we’re here to talk about today: Moringa.
Spare a minute and we’ll share all sorts of good information regarding Moronga; what it is, how to use it, and how Moringa benefits the skin and body.

Moringa… What is it?

This is one of the most nutritious trees in the world. Although there are 13 species of the tree, Moringa Oleifera is the tree with the most robust nutrition profile and has been the most widely studied.
For those of us who strive to lead healthy lifestyles, this green superfood is like taking a natural multi-vitamin, and so much more. For those who are dealing with health challenges, it would interest you to know that it helps to remedy diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, IBS, chronic fatigue syndrome, and osteoporosis – just to name a few. The benefits do not end there. In fact, the World Health Organization has endorsed the use of Moringa to address malnutrition and infant mortality on a global scale. It truly lives up to its name as the Miracle Tree.

Originating from the Himalayan region, this tree has existed for centuries and can be found growing freely in tropical and sub-tropical regions. It is known by different names around the world depending on the region where it is being cultivated: Malungay, Benzoil tree, Horseradish tree, and Miracle tree to name a few.
It’s safe for and gives benefit to all ages, from babies to the elderly. All parts of the tree have beneficial uses: the bark, pods, seeds, leaves, tubers, roots, and flowers may be incorporated and/or consumed in different ways.

Here at The Moringa Group, we create products from two important components of the tree: leaves and seeds. From the leaves, which are the most nutrient-dense part of the tree, we make tea, powder, and capsules. From the seeds, we create cold-pressed, raw moringa oil. All our moringa is organic and of very high quality. We put a lot of care into ensuring that our customers get the best possible product made from this green superfood.

How Healthy is the Moringa Tree?

Moringa Skincare BenefitsConsuming moringa daily, in either tea or powder form, provides a myriad of nutrients. It’s high in iron, calcium, and protein – providing all 9 essential amino acids (ie, a complete protein), a rarity in leafy greens. It contains 92 nutrients, including Vitamins A, B, C, and E.

According to the Food Science and Human Wellness Journal published in 2016 (, Moringa oleifera contains more calcium than milk. “While 8 ounces of milk can provide 300-400 mg, [fresh] moringa leaves can provide 1000 mg and moringa powder can provide more than 4000 mg of calcium”, say researchers Krothi Doriya and colleagues.

The journal publication compares the nutrients of moringa to that of various fruits and vegetables. Accordingly, it has 7 times more vitamin C compared to oranges, 10 times more vitamin A than carrots, 15 times more potassium than bananas, and 25 times more iron than spinach. Including this green superfood in your diet is a clear way to improve your nutrition. But that’s not all that it does.

Nutrients from the leaves are used to treat malnutrition and can increase breast milk in lactating mothers. Moringa is also used as an “antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and antimicrobial agent”.
Moringa contains the highest levels of antioxidants of any known food. This provides protection for our cells against the damages of free radicals; toxins that are introduced into our body by highly processed foods and environmental toxins. It is also helpful in lowering cholesterol and normalizing blood pressure.

General Health Benefits of Moringa

In countries such as Senegal and the Philippines, it is given to help mothers struggling to breastfeed their babies due to the fact that it has properties that augment the mother’s milk production. This makes it possible to mitigate early childhood malnutrition due to lackluster breastfeeding.

A short supply of iron in the body causes anemia – using moringa as treatment is effective due to the fact that the leaves have high iron content. Ingesting either as tea or powder, will boost iron and makes it possible for a person to recover from anemia.
A study also suggests that moringa has anti-tumor properties. Lab tests conducted in mice show that properties such as benzyl isothiocyanate, niazimicin, etc. are potential anti-tumor agents. However, further studies need to be conducted to verify these claims.
Aside from these, there are positive effects when applied to human skin. If you want to know what they are, then proceed to the next section below.

Moringa For Skin: Is It Effective?

Moringa lotionAntioxidants play a vital role in skincare. They help to fight wrinkles, mitigate the obviousness of scars, and promote firm skin. Moringa Oleifera has the largest amounts of naturally occurring antioxidants in any known plant. According to research published in the Journal of Plant Food and Nutrition (2009), tender and mature M.Olifeira leaf extracts show strong antioxidant activity that decreases free radicals, prevents oxidative damage from skin molecules, and protects against oxidative damage.

This green superfood is great for people who suffer from skin irritation or skin disease. Studies show that this plant has properties that help to fight inflammation, hyperlipidemia, and hyperglycemia. “The properties of its phytochemicals, such as flavonols and phenolic acids were related to the anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-bacterial activities”, Majambu Mbikay asserts on his research paper about the therapeutic effects of M.olifeira published in Front Pharmacol Journal (2012).

Skin infections can also be mitigated and treated with the moringa plant. Parts such as seeds, pods, stem bark, root bark, and leaves have antimicrobial properties. In their research published in the Asian Pacifical Journal of Tropical Medicine(2011), Peixoto and co-researchers state that Moringa leaf extract has the potential to treat bacterial infections. Moringa can be helpful as a treatment of pimples, eczema, bites, and cuts.

A quick scan of various studies suggests that moringa is good for skincare. Applying it will give you glowing skin and protection against damage, aging, and other skin problems. “Moringa is a complete food, it gives you everything you need from A to Z,” says Dr. Howard Fisher as he elaborates the benefits of moringa in an interview with ALVA.
We agree with this statement of Dr.Fisher since it is proven by the publications of various organizations that moringa is a good supplement for the human body.
